Engr. Andrew Abanum works at Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC), with over 17-years industry experience. Engr. AA as fondly called by friends and colleagues, is an alumnus of the prestigious Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, where he obtained his Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Production Engineering Technology in 2002. He did his one-year mandatory National Youth Service Programme (NYSC) at Kajuru Technical College, Kajuru, Kaduna State in 2004/2005. Hewent further to obtain his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees (B.Eng. Hons. & M.Eng.) in Petroleum Production Engineering, from the University of Port Harcourt (Unique Uniport) in 2010 and 2013 respectively. As he joined the Oil and gas industry, his passion for operational health, safety, security and environment (HSSE)spiraled up and this has resonated in all he has achieved in his industry career.He has acquired specialized training and certifications in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (OHSE), Oil and Gas Production Operations, Process Safety, Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), Safety and Risk Management (SRM, HAZID, HAZOP, SAFOP), and regulatory compliance liaison advocacy.
Engr, AA obtained his NEBOSH IGC in 2009, NEBOSH International Diploma (NEBOSH Diplomate) in 2011, NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil & Gas Operational Safety (IOGC) in 2012, Train the Trainer Certificate (EdExcel, London) in 2012. Engr. AA holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Safety and Risk management (PGD–SRM, 2017) from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.Engr. Andrew M. ABANUM obtained his Doctorate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety (PhD in OHS) from the Centre for Health, Safety, and Environment (COHSE), Faculty of Engineering and Institute of Petroleum and Energy Studies (IPES), University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.He is currently taking his MBA studies at the Delta State University, Abraka, Delta State. His application of in-depth safety engineering practice has earned him several prestigious safety intervention and leadership excellence awards at Shell, andfrom Professional Bodies (NSE, NISafetyE, NIPetE), and the recent Engr.Kofi Sagoe’s HSSE-SP award by the Society for Petroleum Engineers Nigerian Council (SPENC) at the NAICE2023in Lagos.

His literary works are in Petroleum Production Engineering, and in occupational health, safety, and Environment (HSE). His research publications have attracted researchers across the globe (ResearchGate). As part of his professional and career development strategy, he is currently being mentored by high-profile managers, industry experts, subject matter experts (SMEs), professionals, and scholars in the academia. Also, Engr. AA has many young professionals and students under his tutelage, enjoying his mentorship. Engr. AA is a NEBOSH accredited Tutor and Examiner for over 9 years. He has facilitated several professional courses in occupational health and safety, first aid and medical emergency response, fire safety and in practical field surface production operations.
